SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — An upcoming I-29 Moo University Winter Workshop Series will address “Prosperity of dairy calves and heifers: Its relevance to the animal, the producer and the consumer.” Midwest Dairy representatives also will provide checkoff updates.

Workshops will be offered Jan. 8 at Pipestone Systems, 1801 Forman Drive, Pipestone; and Jan. 9 at the Sioux County Extension Office, 400 Central Ave. N.W., Orange City, Iowa.

Each workshop will begin with 9:30 a.m. registration, followed by programs on animal welfare and pain mitigation protocols for disbudding calves and roundtable discussions. After lunch, programs will discuss pair or group rearing of calves and resources on calf care. The workshop is slated to end at 2:45 p.m.

The workshops are free, but people are asked to pre-register a week ahead of time to ensure adequate resource materials and food. For more information, contact Tracey Erickson, SDSU extension dairy field specialist, at (605) 882-5140 or Tracey.Erickson@sdstate.edu.
