MANKATO — Construction on eastbound Interstate 90 in Jackson County will begin June 7, with motorists to encounter traffic changes as part of the project.
Eastbound I-90 traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes, reducing traffic to a single lane, head-to-head configuration. No detour is anticipated for through traffic on I-90.
Eastbound traffic access to the ramps at Jackson County Road 9/380th Avenue and Minnesota 86 will be temporarily closed during construction. Traffic will be detoured for eastbound I-90 traffic intending to travel north on Minnesota 86 using southbound Minnesota 86, Jackson County 34, U.S. 71, I-90 and Minnesota 86.
Construction on the 11 miles of I-90 is expected to be complete in October and includes resurfacing the existing eastbound pavement, eastbound entrance and westbound exit ramps; installing new edge drains and ditch cleaning; culvert repairs; and upgrading guardrail. Michels Corporation of Brownsville, Wisconsin, was awarded the project with a bid of $9.91 million.
