WORTHINGTON - The Worthington Police Department is investigating the burglary of the 11th Street business Mazzinni.
According to WPD officer Tyler Olson, the police received the report at 6:41 a.m. Monday from a resident who saw the glass door of the store broken. He explained that it’s too early in the investigation to release more information.
Mazzinni’s owner, Miguel Rivas, said he rushed to the store after law enforcement notified him that his store had been burglarized. Rivas arrived to see a broken door and around seven phones and iPhones missing. He said he’s unsure of the total value of the stolen items, but noted that just one of the iPhones costs around $800.

“I never thought something like this could happen in this town,” Rivas said.
Rivas explained that the individuals took demo phones, meaning they won’t be able to use them, and added that the items can be track down. He said the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, a unique identification number all mobile phones have, allows him to place those phones on a “black list” so they can be blocked.
“Basically, nobody can use those phones,” Rivas said. “They stole something they will never be able to use.”
Olson advised residents should contact the WPD immediately if they find a cell phone on the street.
