WORTHINGTON -- Minnesota West Community and Technical College will offer a leadership workshop, "Foundations of Intercultural Competence," by Phyllis Braxton, PINK Consulting LLC, in partnership with Iowa Workforce Development Centers, Iowa State University Extension and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Braxton is the president and founder of PINK Consulting and has worked for the St. Paul Urban League, the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley and for Minnesota Independent School Forum, where she was director of multicultural services and supported 40 private high schools in the state of Minnesota on advancing their diversity initiatives.

Braxton is also an adjunct faculty member of St. Mary's University in the Culturally Responsive Teaching Certification Program, a certified administer of the Intercultural Development Inventory, Intercultural Conflict Styles, Cultural Detective and Myers-Briggs Type Inventory.

The interactive workshop is design to teach cultural self-awareness, cultural general information, and tools to be more effective across cultural differences and commonalities.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Wimbledon Room at the Arrowwood Conference Center, in Okoboji, Iowa.

Continuing education unit application has been made for the Minnesota Board of Social Work, Minnesota BENHA, Minnesota and Iowa boards of Nursing, Nursing Home Administrators and SHRM and has been approved for the Iowa Board of Social Work.
