ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -– Lyon County Leadership celebrated the graduation of 19 participants Wednesday in Rock Rapids.
The six-week Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach-sponsored program focused on maximizing the strengths and skills of current and future community leaders. Participants focused on exploring and further developing leadership skills and becoming more aware of and involved in their community.
“Think about who really cares about what happens here in Lyon County,” Jane Goeken, program facilitator and Community Development Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, said. “If not you, then who? When something good happens in Lyon County, it’s you -- the people that live and work here -- that make it happen.”

Topic highlights included understanding the self and others, dealing with controversy and conflict, leading effective meetings and volunteerism.

Participants were nominated to attend Lyon County Leadership by their employer or another community organization. Sessions were taught by ISU Extension and Outreach staff members affiliated with the Community and Economic Development program.

This was the second session of Lyon County Leadership offered in 2016. There were 35 participants in the winter session and 19 in this session.
