WORTHINGTON - Weeks after Shopko announced the closure of 39 stores, the troubled national retailer on Wednesday said that an additional 174 stores will be shutting their doors - and Worthington’s location is on the list.
Shopko had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month and said it is restructuring "as a result of excess debt and ongoing competitive pressures." The newest round of closures means Shopko would have just 109 stores, compared to the 342 that were open before the 39-store announcement in late 2018.
The list of 174 stores slated for closure listed the estimated last day of operation for Worthington’s Shopko as May 12, 2019.
