LAKEFIELD — Jerry and Nancy Ackermann are partnering with the Heron Lake Watershed District and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to host a Southwest Minnesota Field Day showcasing the benefits of using strip tillage and cover crops. The event is planned at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Ackermann farm, 39750 820th St., Lakefield.
Data and testing have been collected over a three-year period to measure and determine the benefits of using cover crop strip-till management versus conventional tillage.
Topics covered during the event include cover crop seed mix demonstrations, rainfall simulator demonstrations showing runoff and infiltration rates, soil temperature and moisture results from the grant period, and management soil test results and herbicide considerations.
