WORTHINGTON - West Ridge Accounting Services may have just opened its first Worthington office, but the woman behind the company already knows the city like the back of her hand.

Worthington native Samantha Zishka moved out of her hometown to Greeley, Colo. in 2016 to start her own accounting business. It turns out she was pretty popular, as she was voted the number one tax and accounting office two years in a row.

Zishka, who was sporting two King Turkey Day pins during the Worthington office’s grand opening Friday, saw an opportunity in her hometown to open a second location.

“There was a very large need for a physical accounting office in Worthington that specializes in taxes and bookkeeping,” Zishka said. “I had a large Worthington base in Colorado already, so we’ll be shifting that back to the Worthington area to keep the jobs and business here.”

Candice Ommen, a Fulda resident with a dozen years of accounting experience under her belt, will run the Worthington office. She is assisted by Alex Pierson, who works remotely from St. James on bookkeeping, payroll and human resources.

The Worthington location specializes in individual taxes, but both the Worthington and Greeley offices offer the full range of services, including payroll and accounting services for small businesses.

“That’s the great thing about virtual work - anything they can do in Colorado, I can do here, she can do in St. James,” Ommen said.

The office building, located on 705 10th Avenue, underwent several renovations over the last month to add four tax offices. It currently has three employees, and Zishka said the company hopes to add five to 10  jobs by January.

One of West Ridge’s biggest advantages, Zishka said, is it operates year-round, rather than just during tax season.

“We also offer everything the national chains do,” she added. “We can hold the fees out of your refund, refund advances, things like that … but with a local touch.”
The Worthington office can be contacted at 376-4TAX or http://westridgeaccounting.com .
