LUVERNE - The city of Luverne will be bustling this weekend with its 34th annual Buffalo Days celebration Friday through Sunday - and Luverne High School’s graduation ceremony Sunday afternoon.

A few new events are part of Buffalo Days this year, from a quilt show at the Hinkly House by Luverne quilters to the Take 16 Block Party at the microbrewery on Main Street.

Luverne Area Chamber Director Jane Lanphere said a ribbon cutting was conducted last week for the new event center inside the brewery.

“It’s a beautiful, great addition to town,” Lanphere said, adding that the center provides seating for more than 120 people. The Take 16 Block Party will include live music and food.

Perennial favorites include the Friday evening Buffalo Days Cruise-In on Luverne’s Main Street downtown. There is corral parking for more than 300 vehicles, and free registration for those who want to showcase their vehicle. The band Starfire is back to perform the hits of the ’50s and ’60s, and there will be food vendors and a beer garden on site.

Also returning is the annual Arts in the Park on Saturday, with artists, crafters and vendors showcasing a variety of items. The park will also feature a variety of food vendors, free inflatables for the kids, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations and, of course, the always popular Buffalo Chip throwing contest.

The Luverne Baseball Association will bring 50 teams of youths from the tri-state area to town for the weekend to compete in its annual tournament, and spectators are welcome to watch the kids in grades 3-8 play ball at Joe Roberts Field and the school. A VFW tournament will be at Redbird Field.

Add in a parade, fun run and walk, speedway races and Sunday’s seventh presentation of “Tales from the Grave” (focusing on Rock County natives and presented at The History Center) and it makes for a busy weekend.

“Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy,” said Lanphere.
