SIBLEY, Iowa - It’s time for the Good Ole Summertime celebration … and a long-awaited dip at a new community water complex.

Sibley will host its annual summer festival from Friday through Sunday, with a substantial majority of the events on the docket for Saturday. A popular place to be Saturday afternoon will almost certainly be the Sibley Pool, where a grand opening for the community’s new Outdoor Aquatic Center will take place from 3 to 8 p.m.

Renovation of the former city pool into the new facility began May 15, 2018, and the Osceola County city had to go without an outdoor pool last summer as work continued on the project.

Ranging from zero-depth to an 11-feet, 4-inch depth, the 276,690-gallon pool boasts a lily pad walkway, floating log roll, rock climbing wall, diving stand, slide, water therapy seat, designated lap lanes, a volleyball net and basketball hoop. A zero-depth splash pad fenced off separately from the pool is also part of the complex.

The approximately $2.1 million project was constructed by Branco Enterprises Inc. Over the course of three years, a group of community residents worked to raise approximately $500,000 through various events and donations from area businesses and individuals. Then, in November 2017, 85% of Sibley voters supported a $1.6 million bond for pool reconstruction.

The aquatic center is located at 800 11th Ave., is also home to a new ADA-compliant bathhouse.
