WORTHINGTON - Ground Round of Worthington, Sanford Worthington, Radio Works, The Globe and Community Blood Bank will host the annual All American community blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (June 19) at Ground Round, 1290 Ryan’s Road.

Blood donations are needed immediately to help with summer blood shortages within the community. All those donating will receive a special All American blood donor T-shirt and a certificate with a special meal offer, compliments of Ground Round.

“The beginning of the summer has been one of the most difficult times to keep up with the demand for blood in recent years,” Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg said in a press release. “We have seen such a significant increase in usage through the treatment of surgery and cancer patients. Currently, there is an outpacing of usage over collections. Our hope is that we see a strong showing of support for the blood drive.”

Community Blood Bank supplies more than 550 units of blood each week to people in the region. Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health. Please bring an ID to the blood drive. It is recommended that donors eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood.
