WORTHINGTON — Following the recent mandate from the state of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s office, and in order to best ensure the health of the entire Y community, the Worthington Area YMCA will be closed to the public effective at close of business on Friday, and continuing through Dec. 18.

Learning Camp and enrichment programs will remain open until further notice., and the YMCA will also offer a limited selection of Facebook Live classes. For more information, follow the Worthington YMCA Facebook page. The Y will also have on-demand fitness options available on ymca360.org.

“We understand this is a very concerning situation,” Worthington Area YMCA Executive Director and CEO Meredith Daley said. “The Worthington Area Y has been a pillar of the Worthington community for more than 75 years, throughout both good and challenging times. We will continue to monitor this evolving situation and will work with local officials to determine what future actions will be necessary.”

During the closure, the YMCA will provide updates and information directly via email, as well as posting information to its website and social media channels: Facebook and ymcaworthington.org.

“We are asking everyone to follow the guidance of local health and government officials, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and take their own measures to protect themselves, including not putting themselves in situations with large crowds or where they come in close contact with others, staying home if they do not feel well, frequently washing their hands with soap and water and covering their coughs and sneezes,” Daley said.
