WINDOM — The Sons of Norway Stavanger Lodge 1-538 will host its next meeting at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Cottonwood County Historical Society, 812 Fourth Ave., Windom.

Lawrence Moe, Professor Emeritus, College of Liberal Arts, Metropolitan State University, Saint Paul, Minnesota will present “The Life and Work of & ‘Colorado Pete.’” “Colorado Pete” was the pen name for Bagley native Arthur Owen Peterson, who died at the age of 35 from tuberculosis contracted during military service in World War I.

While in a Colorado hospital, Peterson wrote romantic and humorous poems, more than 100 of which were printed by the Chicago Tribune. Colorado Pete made his mark on the history of Clearwater County, Minnesota, through both his civic activities and his poetry.

A book signing of Professor Moe’s work “The Poetry of Colorado Pete” will accompany the presentation. The public is cordially invited, as guests are always welcome at any Lodge meeting. Refreshments will be served according to CCHS and COVID sanitary guidelines, and CDC and Minnesota state COVID-19 protocols will be followed.
