Blue Mounds State Park plans activities

LUVERNE -- Blue Mounds State Park north of Luverne has several activities planned during the month of February, including "Groundhog Adventures" from 11 a.m. to noon today, Groundhog Day.

LUVERNE - Blue Mounds State Park north of Luverne has several activities planned during the month of February, including “Groundhog Adventures” from 11 a.m. to noon today, Groundhog Day.

The story of an adventurous groundhog will be shared and people will get to make their own story book to take home.

On Feb. 8, the park will host Bison Tales from 4 to 5 p.m. During this event, the park naturalist will talk about bison at Blue Mounds State Park and how they are part of a larger effort to conserve bison throughout the state. Touch real pieces of bison, practice bison communication skills and make a bison storybook oto take home.

From 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 16, the park will host “Snowy Survival.” Practice survival skills like building a snow den and starting a fire. Open to all ages and abilities.

For all three activities, people are asked to meet at the cart-in site picnic shelter.
