Regional Autism Network slated for Feb. 12
WORTHINGTON — Individuals wanting to learn about and support those impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder are invited to attend the Feb. 12 Regional Autism Network.
From 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., individuals from across southwest Minnesota are invited to participate in the free quarterly network event at the Worthington High School Media Center.
Hosted by Independent School District 518, the quarterly event is intended for a variety of people wanting to receive education, training, support and guidance, said District 518 Autism Consultant Allison Eitreim.
“One in 68 people have autism,” Eitreim said. “We’re all going to encounter someone with autism at some point in our life.”
Eitreim said the district is looking to continue the networks annually after what she considered a successful first year.
Last year’s network events drew 20 to 30 individuals from across the region including Luverne, Adrian, Brewster, Slayton, Fulda, Windom and Jackson, she said.
Participants have included parents, grandparents, daycare providers, group home employees, foster families, home school parents, teachers and paraprofessionals, Eitreim said.
Registration is not required but recommended to ensure appropriate childcare and interpreters are available.
