Luverne hosts Hot Dog Nite Thursday

LUVERNE — Luverne will host its 56th annual Hot Dog Nite Thursday, with 15,000 free hot dogs served by local merchants. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues until the franks are gone, and is a thank you to customers and visitors. All are welcome.

An entire evening of events is planned, with the Luverne Farmers Market to open from 4 to 7 p.m. at Redbird Field; Take 16 Brewing Co. opening at 4 p.m.; and numerous activities for the kids, including face painting, inflatables and a mobile entertainment center, plus free freezie pops at 5:30 p.m. by Midwest Fire’s new fire engine.

Tae Kwon Do demonstrations begin at 6 p.m. on Main Street, followed by a performance of the Spotlight dancers at 6:30 p.m., the Wienerman Triathlon at 7 p.m., and the annual Wiener Dog Beauty Pageant at 7 p.m., followed by the Wiener Dog Races.

Smooth Groove will perform live at Sterling’s Cafe & Grille, while Spencer, Iowa native Casey Muessingmann, who competed in Season 3 of “The Voice,” will perform live at the Plaza, corner of Main and McKenzie streets, from 8 to 11 p.m.

Several food vendors will be on hand with sweet treats, including the Rock County Dairy Association with ice cream, All-American Kettle Korn, Dakota Snow Shave Ice Creations and Chuck’s Snow Cones & Cotton Candy.
