Compassionate Friends candle lighting is Dec. 9
WINDOM — The Compassionate Friends of Windom will host a special Candle Lighting Dec. 9 at the Cottonwood County Historical Society, 812 Fourth Ave., Windom. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
The event is for southwest Minnesota families to honor the memories of their daughters, sons, brothers, sisters or grandchildren who have died at any age, at any time, from any cause. Each attendee is welcome to light a candle in memory of their loved one. Refreshments will be served afterward with time for families to share their child’s story.
Supplies will be provided to make a personalized ornament in memory of a child, or bring an ornament for the tree. The program begins at 6:45 p.m. with the Candle Lighting ceremony at 7 p.m.
The remembrance is part of the 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting. Starting in New Zealand, as candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time around the globe, a virtual 24-hour wave of light is created as it moves from time zone to time zone. The Worldwide Candle Lighting gives bereaved families the opportunity to remember their child(ren) so their lights may always shine.
