Lunchbox lecture highlights golf in Murray County
SLAYTON — The Murray County Historical Society’s January Dinehart Lunchbox Lecture Series will host Janet Timmerman at noon Thursday in the 4-H building on the Murray County Fairgrounds for a presentation on the history of golfing and golf courses in the Murray County region.
There is a charge for the event, and members of the Murray County Historical Society get in free. Bring your questions and your lunch; coffee, tea, hot drinks and snacks are provided. For more information, contact the museum at (507) 836-6533 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Timmerman’s research will shed light on those early duffers and their courses and the interesting conditions that challenged their game. She’ll dig out items from the museum’s collection for show and tell.
Timmerman is the Murray County Museum’s Coordinator. She is the co-editor and contributing writer for two books, “At the Headwaters: The 1992 Floods in Southwest Minnesota,” and “Draining the Great Oasis: An Environmental History of Murray County,” and is the author of “Draining the Great Oasis: Reclaiming Agricultural Land in Murray County from 1910-1915,” and “Red Earth White Road.”
