Hospice Cottage Inc. fundraiser event is April 6
WORTHINGTON — Lauren Postma wanted to do something special for this year’s Hospice Cottage Inc. fundraiser, set for April 6 at the Worthington Event Center.
“I’ve got a real soft spot for hospice and like to do whatever I can to support it,” said Postma, a Worthington resident.
“He’s been one of our biggest supporters for a lot of years and he’s humbly prefered to remain anonymous in the past,” added Susanne Murphy, vice president of Hospice Cottage Inc.’s board of directors.
This year, Postma has built a 40 inch by 84 inch oak table — currently on display at The Stag Clothiers — that is being raffled off as a prize at this year’s raffle fundraiser. All proceeds from the raffle benefit Hospice Cottage Inc.
“This was worked on for about two months when I had time, but I could usually make a table like this in about three or four days,” noted Postma, adding the top of the table is “six-quarter oak. Pretty much everything is put together with mortise and tenons (joints that connect two pieces of wood).
““Many of these I give away, and I’m planning on making sets for all my grandkids.”
Last week, Postma said he was working on a barn door for a couple, and he has little trouble keeping himself busy in his shop. He was pleased to take on an extra project in making the table, which will be awarded as part of the raffle grand prize drawing April 6.
“I had an uncle that was in hospice ago he said,” Postma said. “It’s just a good organization.”
There will be plenty more going on at the Hospice Cottage Inc. fundraiser than just the raffle. Social time will begin at 5 p.m., with dinner set for 6:30 p.m. Entertainment by The Blue Ringers will follow.
In addition to the raffle drawing, attendees will also have the chance to bid on multiple live and silent auction items donated by local individuals and businesses. There will also be a “Heads or Tails” game with cash awarded, as well as a “Pop the Cork” competition that will allow winners to claim a bottle of wine and gift certificate.
Along with Postma’s table, a Coach purse has been donated and will be raffled off as well. Tickets are $5 each.
It’s encouraged that reservations for the April 6 fundraiser event be made early, as the 2018 affair was a sellout. Tickets may be purchased at The Stag Clothiers, 412 10th St., or by calling: Susanne Murphy at (507) 360-6699; Alan Oberloh at (507) 329-1092; Joan Mahlberg at (507) 329-5230; Pam Hain at (507) 360-0526; or Deb Scheidt at (507) 360-6657.
