SLAYTON — From chuckwagon cooking demonstrations to a rib cook-off, beer and wine tastings and an apple pie contest, the Murray County Fair will be filled with tantalizing foods to tempt your tastebuds.

The fair officially kicks off today and continues through Saturday. Following is a schedule of events:



Wednesday, Aug. 14

9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Open class entry, fair office

10 a.m.: 4-H and open class exhibit buildings open

11 a.m.: 4-H Rabbit Show, Olson Arena

Noon to 9 p.m.: Commercial exhibit buildings open

Noon to 7 p.m.: Museum buildings, log cabin open

2 p.m. 4-H Goat Show, Olson Arena

4 p.m.: Fashion Review, Heritage Hall; Carnival Rides open

5 p.m.: Beer Garden opens

5 to 8 p.m.: Fair Shuttle offered by VFW/Legion members

5 to 7 p.m.: Fun Food Challenge featuring “Put your Best Fruit Forward”, Open to all, 4-H Building

6 to 6:45 p.m. and 7 to 7:45 p.m.: Dueling Pianos, under tent

6 p.m.: 4-H Sheep Show, Lamb Lead, Olson Arena

6:45 p.m.: Century Farm Presentation, under tent

7 p.m.: Bean Bag tournament

7:30 p.m.: Backseat Driver competition, (pre-registration at 7 p.m.) Horse Arena, free admission

8 to 11 p.m.: Mylan Ray performs, Beer Garden



Thursday, Aug. 15

8 a.m.: 4-H Swine Show, Olson Arena

10 a.m.: 4-H Exhibit building opens

11 a.m.: Open class exhibit buildings open

Noon: 4-H Dairy Show, Olson Arena; Apple Pie contest registration, Heritage Hall
