LUVERNE — The 69th annual Tri-State Band Festival will converge on Luverne Saturday, with 28 bands taking part this year — more bands than in any other year during the past decade.

The day begins with the parade competition at 9:30 a.m. on Luverne’s Main Street. Seventeen marching bands will compete in the parade, including the Northern State Marching Wildcats from Aberdeen, S.D.

Parade marshals are the former music educators from Luverne Public Schools.

The field competition begins at 12:30 p.m. on the Cardinal Football Field, 709 N. Kniss Ave. Admission to the field competition is with purchase of a Tri-State Band Festival button. Buttons will be sold during the parade and at the entrance to the field competition.

Participating bands include Adrian, Murray County Central, Pipestone Area, Stewartville, Tracy, Waseca and Worthington in Minnesota; Boyden-Hull, George-Little Rock, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux City East and West Lyon high schools in Iowa; and Brandon Valley, Brookings, Dell Rapids, Garretson, Huron, Lennox, Madison, Mitchell, Sioux Falls Christian, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Washington, Tea and West Central high schools in South Dakota.
