WORTHINGTON — The Center for Active Living (CAL), 211 11th St., will be hosting multiple activities through Active Aging Week Sept. 30 through Oct. 4.
The theme for Active Aging Week 2019 is “Redefining Active” because active aging is about so much more than just exercise. It’s about broader engagement — physically, socially, cognitively, spiritually, professionally and civically. Active aging is about engaging with family, friends and/or community, learning and trying new things, volunteering, mentoring, pursuing further professional development, traveling, maintaining an active spiritual/religious life, and leading a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition, exercise, mindfulness and other forms of stress-management.
The following activities are scheduled at the CAL, which can be reached at 376-6457:
Monday: Fourth annual Pickleball Fun Time, 7 and 9 a.m. Players will organize groups for a round-robin event. Call for information and sign up.
Potluck lunch at 11:15 a.m.; call to sign up and indicate food or beverage being shared.
Men’s and ladies’ pinochle refresher, 1 p.m. Players will provide tips and information on how pinochle is played.
Tuesday: Walk with Anita begins at 11 a.m. There will be a scenic walk in the nearby area.
Spinner Dominoes will being at 1 p.m.
Wednesday: Drop-in card-making workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. Make as many cards as you would like from materials die-cut and designed by Kathy Myer. Cards may be personalized; newcomers welcome. Call for cost and signup information.
“Keys to Successful Aging and the Challenges We Face,” a Prairie Rehab lunch presentation, will begin at 11:30 a.m. A $3 meal deal is sponsored by Prairie Rehab and includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, peas, roll, fruit crisp with whipped topping, milk and coffee. Call ahead to reserve a spot.
Tie-blanket making kickoff, 1:30 p.m. Join CAL members and A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota crafters in making tie-blankets for Christmas baskets and other local charities. Meets every Wednesday. Call Joanne at 295-5262 to sign up.
Thursday: Brain Food Thursday. Bring fresh fruits, veggies or other healthy snacks to share throughout the day.
Free Hatha Yoga class with Margaret Hurlbut Vosburgh, 11 a.m. Hatha Yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques. All ages and ability levels welcomed. Call to sign up.
Friday: “Getting the Nutrition You Need as You Age, presented by Avera Dietician Darlene DeWitt, 10:30 a.m. Coffee and cookies provided. Call by Thursday to sign up.
