WORTHINGTON — In the wake of COVID-19 isolation, Worthington’s International Festival Committee wants the 2021 event to be special.
The committee is planning an opportunity for conversations and celebrations that unite the community. Its new vision is "To create a healthy community by: 1) building our awareness and appreciation of our community's diverse cultures; 2) Understanding our privileges and prejudices that inhibit creating community; and 3) celebrating with pride the richness of our community's varied cultural expressions."
Individuals interested in working with the committee may begin discussing possibilities by emailing the planners at internationalfestivalwgtn@gmail.com . Among the current work teams are Folk and Traditional Artists, Children's Activities, Food Vendors, Ethnic/Artisan booth, Fashion Show, Immigrant Conversations, Publicity, Fundraising and Logistics. A new element could be expressing appreciation of Worthington’s ethnically diverse essential workers/heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The only qualification to serve on the committee is a desire to strengthen the area’s sense of community.
