SPECIAL BOARD MEETING - June 2, 2010
A special meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 518, Worthington, Minnesota, was held at the District Administration Office, 1117 Marine Avenue, Minnesota on June 2, 2010, at 7:30 a.m.
The following were present: BOARD MEMBERS - Bob Jirele, Steve Schnieder, Lori Dudley, Joel Lorenz, Linden Olson, Brad Shafer. ABSENT - Mark Shepherd
ADMINISTRATORS - John Landgaard, Superintendent, Dave Skog, Director of Management Services
1. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shafer to approve the agenda for the June 2, 2010, Special Board meeting with the addition of 7.1 - Staffing Discussion. Motion passed 6-0.

2. Chairman Lorenz opened the Public Hearing to consider a tax abatement request from Astrup Drug. Board members asked questions of Superintendent Landgaard and Brian Hagen, representing Astrup Drug. No other public input was received.
3. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shafer to approve the request for tax abatement from Astrup Drug. Motion passed 6-0.
4. Motion by Member Shafer, seconded by Member Dudley to approve an out-of town travel request for Jerusha Lowe to attend The Wind River Mountains Institute - Educational Renewal for Alternative School Faculty Workshop in Wyoming on June 23-26. Motion passed 6-0.
5. Motion by Member Olson, seconded by Member Dudley to accept a resignation form Keith Fleming, High School Assistant Principal effective June 30, 2010. Motion passed 6-0.
6. Mr. Besel and Mr. Luke presented information related to anticipated enrollment increases and staffing needs due to the closing of the Worthington Area Language Academy. Both principals made staffing recommendations to the Board. Motion by Member Olson, seconded by Member Dudley to approve 6.0 FTE teaching positions, 6.0 FTE paraprofessional positions and a part-time interpreter position for the Middle School. Motion carried 6-0.
