Worthington Area Foundation awards grants to 13 organizations

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area Foundation celebrated its 2020 grant recipients on Monday with a drive-through event at the entrance of the Worthington Comfort Suites. More than $23,000 has been granted to community organizations dedicated to the future of the Worthington area.

“The foundation is proud to support these organizations this year as in the past, but more importantly this year to help the many nonprofits in need with challenges presented from COVID-19," said Glenn Thuringer, president of the Worthington Area Foundation Board of Directors.

Organizations receiving awards are:

Friends of the Auditorium, $3,500 for virtual performances; Immigrant Law Center, $2,000 for immigration services; District 518 Robotics, $2,500 for CNC machine purchase; Kids-R-It, $2,500 for parking Lot and Internet Improvements; Love INC, $1,000 for faith and finance classes; Nobles County Art Center, $800 for art supply bags; Nobles County Historical Society, $1,500 for "Making History Come Alive"; Southwest Minnesota Opportunity Council, $1,170.68 for the Dental Project; Civil Air Patrol, $1,000 for emergency services training, Nobles County 4-H, $1,500 for robot equipment and curriculum; Worthington Area YMCA, $4,000 for its Learning Camp; Worthington Christian School, $750 for its Science Everyday program; Worthington Hockey Association, $1,247.24 for programming support.

The Worthington Area Foundation helps local organizations support key projects each year.. The projects are funded locally with the support and leadership of the Southwest Initiative Foundation, which is where the funds are held and managed. The Worthington Area Foundation Board is 100% in control of the funds and is able to direct the funds each year to local organizations in need from invested donations.


In addition to the invested funds, the Worthington Area Foundation is committed to fundraise each year to assist in the investment growth for the present and future award recipients. This year, the Worthington Area Foundation has been blessed by the generosity of matching funds for the 2020 year — every dollar donated with be matched up to $10,000 through the end of 2020.
