WORTHINGTON - The “Amazing” Worthington City Band is in concert at 7:30 p.m. today at Chautauqua Park with a special program highlighting Dr. John Ginocchio of Southwest State University, Marshall.

Ginocchio, director of bands at SMSU, spent a six-week sabbatical last year in Spain and will direct the band in three Spanish marches he researched while there. The numbers are “Templarios De Caravaca,” “Chimo” and “Paquito El Chocolatero.”

Additionally, Ginocchio - a trombone specialist - will perform a virtuosic trombone solo with the band on the selection “Old Home Down on the Farm.” The band’s trombone section will also be featured on “Trombones Triumphant.”

Emcee for the evening is Derek Schmitz, a Worthington Middle School teacher, and Shannon Schmitz will provide the intermission entertainment.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will take place at Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center.
