WORTHINGTON — Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center is unable to host its planned inaugural talent show live April 19, so Auditorium managing director Tammy Makram decided to bring the event online.

Makram said she got the idea from watching videos people all over the world have been sharing while they are stuck inside during the coronavirus pandemic. These videos "make staying at home a little bit easier for everyone," Makram said.

"We wanted to try to keep that positive energy going," she added. MAPAC's Got Talent will now be broadcast through the Auditorium's Facebook page.

To enter, folks simply make a video of their talent, upload the footage to YouTube and email the link to thememorialauditorium@gmail.com. The email should include contact information and the age(s) of the performer(s), as well as stated permission for the Auditorium to post the video to its Facebook page (under 18 need parents' permission).

Entries will be accepted through Sunday, April 12.

When videos go up on the Facebook page, the top three in each age division will be decided based on the most "likes." The three divisions are pre-teen (ages 12 and under), teen (13-18) and open (any age). For group performances, the act will be entered in the the division appropriate for the majority of the performers.

All talents are welcome to enter the talent show.

"We really would like a wide variety of things," Makram said. Singers, dancers, poets, actors, comedians, magicians — all are invited to participate.

Videos of each act will be up on the Auditorium's Facebook page for a week, and winners will be announced April 19.

The prizes for each division are gift certificates for both the MAPAC and the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention Visitors Bureau (Chamber bucks): $100 from each for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.

"Even though our building's not open," Makram said, "we're working hard to support the arts and the community."

She added that the Auditorium is still planning for the upcoming season, and adjustments will be made as needed.
