WORTHINGTON — Nobles County Art Center is hosting an opening reception for Spirit Lake, Iowa artist Hank Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Hall’s mixed media exhibit, “What’s Inside My Head?”, will run through July 19 at the art center.

Mixed media is a relatively new endeavor for Hall, a longtime potter and art teacher.

“I’ve always been really interested in mixed media, but I’ve done most of my work in pottery,” he said.

Hall’s new focus allows him to explore original ideas in a way that pottery didn’t.

“What I try to make hasn’t been in the world before I put it together,” Hall explained.

He said the exhibit will feature “unusual, one-of-a-kind pieces that people haven’t seen anywhere else.” Most of his artwork on display will be for sale.

The name “What’s Inside My Head?” refers to the idea that Hall is displaying the result of exploring ideas he gets from being around spare parts and items other people might throw away.

“The more stuff I have around me, the more inspired I get,” he said.

Hall said he hopes visitors to the exhibit will “see some humor in it.”

“We can all take ourselves too seriously sometimes. I try to get over that.” he added.

Friday’s reception will include a brief presentation by Hall about his artistic drive and process.
