FULDA — A Fulda family spent their Easter week in earnest anxiety over the whereabouts of a teenage son.

Jonathan Hoy, 16, has been missing from his family's home since early last Monday morning, his mother, Shawna said.

The boy's phone pinged the cell phone tower near Fulda Town and Country Golf Course around 3:30 a.m. April 6 and hasn't connected anywhere else since.

"Then he must have shut it off," Shawna guessed. She does not believe that her son was abducted, but that he planned his departure.

As soon as she realized her son was missing, Shawna called law enforcement. She also reached out to Jonathan's friends and asked if they knew where he was, but they didn't have any information.

She received a tip that Jonathan was seen in Worthington on the afternoon of April 7 and that he might be in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

If Jonathan is somewhere within The Globe's reach and is able to read a message from his mother, Shawna wrote an desperate plea for his return, which she shared with The Globe Friday:

"This is to my baby boy, who is not such a baby anymore. I love you more than you will ever know. I've tried to teach you right from wrong and how to be responsible. I hope you are being smart and safe on this journey you chose to take alone. Your family misses you. Summer saves things for you. And Desmond misses you picking on him. And me and your dad have never hurt this much. We love you and want you to come home."

Jonathan 5 feet 7 inches tall, with dark hair and diamond stud earrings. Shawna said he's likely to be wearing red and black, and might be found playing basketball or football if the weather is nice.

If anyone is aware of Jonathan's location, Shawna asks that they reach out to her on Facebook.
