SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE NO. 1144


AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WORTHINGTON, MINNESOTA ENACTING CHAPTER 32.30 OF THE CITY CODE, LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WORTHINGTON DO ORDAIN that on September 9, 2019, Ordinance 32.30 was adopted by the City Council of the City of Worthington, Minnesota. Due to the lengthy nature of Ordinance 32.30 the following summary of the ordinance has been prepared for publication as authorized by state law:

SECTION I:The ordinance adopted by the Council imposes a local sales tax in the amount of 0.5% on the gross receipts from sales at retail sources within the city limits which are taxable under state sales and use tax laws and rules. Collected revenues shall be used to finance the capital and administrative costs related to funding Improvements to the Aquatic Center, Improvements to the Field House, Improvements to the Ice Arena, Park and Recreation Capital Projects and Improvements, Lake Quality Improvements, and, Improvements to the 10th Street Plaza.

The local sales and use tax imposed by Chapter 32.30 shall apply to sales and purchases made on or after January 1, 2020 and shall terminate at the earlier of (1) 15 years or (2) when the City Council determines that $25,000,000.00, plus an amount sufficient to pay the costs related to issuing bonds and interest on the bonds has been received.

SECTION II: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and publication. A printed copy of the entire ordinance is available for inspection at the office of the Worthington City Clerk, 303 9th Street, by any person during the City's regular office hours.
