NISO auditions scheduled for Sept. 6-7

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) will take place Sept. 6 (winds and percussion) and Sept. 7 (strings) in the Music Building on the campus of Dordt University.

Anyone wishing to play in the orchestra for the first time must audition, and all student members need to re-audition each year.

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra’s more than 80 members include adults of all ages as well as gifted students ranging in age from middle school through college. NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children, which will be on Nov. 19 for area students in fourth through sixth grade.

Additionally, auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Youth Orchestra (NISYO) will take place during the morning of Sept. 7 at the Dordt University Music Building.

Now beginning its 13th season, NISYO is under the direction of Dr. Angela Holt. It’s currently a strings-only ensemble that includes students ranging in age from middle school through high school. This group presents two concerts per season in the BJ Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt University.
