HUTCHINSON - The Southwest Minnesota Arts Council recently awarded a total of $31,380 to area artists and arts organizations.

Two area artists earned Individual Developing Artist Grants, which provide up to $2,000 to aid emerging artists at an early stage of their career development. There are no match requirements.

Pamela Warriner, Westbrook, received $2,000 to purchase a kiln to progress with her pottery. She hopes it will be the start to what will one day become her own studio where she can display her art and open it up to help others with their art, and to “teach the joy of ceramics.” Currently, Warriner does hand built ceramics as well as beginning to experiment working with a pottery wheel.

Danielle Wedeking, Windom, received $1,921 to help with the cost of framing her current body of work, which will be a series of 14 drawings once complete. Framing the works will allow her to apply to more galleries for display and help get exposure for her art in a professional manner. She will be working with Framing by Stengel out of Superior, Wis., for the completion of her framing project.

One area artist earned an Individual Established Career Grant, which provides up to $5,000 to aid established career artists in the advanced stage of their career development with projects that will advance their career. There are no match requirements.

Zachary Ploeger, Pipestone, will receive $5,000 for the completion of recordings that would be available as a CD and digitally. All tracks are original compositions composed by Ploeger, and he will be featured as the primary performer with his trumpet on each track. The project will also include a recital tour to various locations throughout the U.S. and the SMAC region, but the tour will be funded through means other than the SMAC grant.

The SMAC grant will enable Ploeger to ensure the recording would be produced in a professional recording facility at the highest level of production and with other musicians of high caliber.
