Smart Choice Health Insurance learning session planned Nov. 12

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa — Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is offering a free workshop to help individuals understand how to make smart choices when purchasing health care coverage. The workshop is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Milford Memorial Library Community Room.

Smart Choice Health Insurance is a health insurance literacy curriculum that provides research-based education to help consumers understand health insurance concepts and terms, evaluate their own health insurance needs, examine insurance plans and select a plan that fits their needs and budget.

Through the Smart Choice Health Insurance workshop, attendees will learn about provider networks and plans, financial assistance, compare different plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace and prepare to purchase health insurance coverage.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) representatives will also be onsite to answer Medicare questions, and set up individual appointments to work one-on-one after the meeting, as/if needed.
