Luverne, New Ulm win Section 3A hockey semifinals games
LUVERNE — The second-seeded Luverne Cardinals captured their Section 3A girls hockey semifinal game against Marshall on Saturday, 3-2. In the other semifinal, top-seeded New Ulm beat Fairmont 5-0.
Luverne and Fairmont will meet Tuesday in the championship, at Fairmont, with the winner qualifying for the state tournament.
Luverne started out with a 2-0 lead on Marshall Saturday. Mallory Von Tersch scored a power play goal in the first period, assisted by Reghan Bork and Payton Behr. Kamryn Van Batavia scored a shorthanded goal in the second period.
Marshall's lone goal was scored by Mia Wichmann.
Luverne attempted 40 shots in the game. Marshall, which was the second seed, attempted 14.
