MNsure offers multilingual enrollment events in Worthington as deadline nears
ST. PAUL — Minnesotans in the Worthington area searching for comprehensive, affordable health insurance have two upcoming opportunities Sunday and Monday to receive free, in-person assistance from Health Access MN and Western Community Action. Help will be available in Amharic, Tigrinya, Spanish and English to better serve the Worthington-area communities.
“As the Feb. 15 deadline draws near, MNsure is making certain that Minnesotans in every corner of the state have access to free assistance to make the enrollment process easier,” said CEO Scott Leitz. “We encourage any Minnesotan who needs our help to come out on Sunday and Monday and meet with experts who have the information you need.”
The free enrollment opportunities will be hosted at Nobles County Integration Collaborative and the Nobles County Library.
“Worthington is an amazing, diverse and resource-rich community, but our county has one of the highest rates of uninsurance in the state,” said Aida Simon, a bilingual program aide for Nobles County Integration Collaborative. “Our residents are simply not informed, not only about the penalty you’ll now face if you go without insurance coverage, but about enrolling and using health insurance in the first place. That’s where the Collaborative comes in — to educate and engage our neighbors, and to help them navigate the system.”
“I’ve been a navigator since the first open enrollment period and have helped hundreds enroll. It is great to help people find affordable coverage or better coverage,” said Mihiret Abrahim, outreach and enrollment navigator for Health Access MN. “I was raised in Worthington, so I am excited to come home again this year to help my community get coverage. Applying for and selecting health coverage is not an easy task, but the support Navigators provide makes it a less daunting experience.”
“There is a high demand for this service, which MNsure is providing free of charge,” said Julie Wellnitz, director of Nobles County Public Library. “Nobles County residents need to be aware of and learn how to use these resources in order to access the appropriate tools to enhance their own health and well-being through various options of health coverage. It is an invaluable service for those in need.”
Open enrollment for 2015 coverage began Nov. 15, 2014 and ends Feb. 15, 2015. Minnesotans eligible for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare can enroll year-round. As of May 2014, 95 percent of Minnesotans have health coverage — the highest percentage in state history.
