SLAYTON - President Obama announced Monday that Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership (SWMHP) is one of six organizations selected to participate in the ArtPlace America Community Development Investments (CDI) program. Over the course of three years, SMHP will receive $3 million to incorporate arts and cultural strategies into its core work.

“We are incredibly excited and gratified to be given this opportunity to enhance community development work creatively through art and culture with this collaboration with ArtSpace and our local art community,” said Rick Goodemann, SWMHP CEO.

“The ArtPlace Community Development Initiative provides a suite of resources that will allow our local communities to aspire to dynamic place making at a level beyond any past expectation.”

“Arts and culture are too often left out of community planning conversations,” added Jamie Bennett, ArtPlace’s Executive Director. “Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership is prepared to demonstrate the unique value that artists and arts organizations can bring to its comprehensive housing and community development initiatives. They will serve as a national model for any place-based community development organization looking to work more comprehensively and inclusively to build a healthy, thriving community.”
