SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Two men have died in a shooting in a high-crime area in northern Sioux Falls and police are seeking a man and woman who may be armed and are of interest in the killings.

Police said that on Friday, Jan. 5, about 5:35 a.m. someone called police after hearing gunshots outside of an apartment at 700 West Rice Street.

Officers found two men with gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Both victims are believed to be in their 20s and detectives were working to identify both men. There were two weapons recovered from the crime scene.

Later Friday afternoon, police issued a statement that they are looking for those two people of interest.

“We believe both Manuel Jesus Frias, 34 years old, and Maria Shantel LeClaire, 27 years old, have information relating to the homicide,” said Sioux Falls police public information officer Sam Clemens. “Frias and LeClaire may be armed, so if you see either, call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 367-7007.”

He also said there were no other updates as of late Friday, including names of the two men killed.

The area surrounding the apartment has been the site of 282 police calls in the past year. The highest number of calls were for disorderly subjects at 48. There were also 27 calls for family disputes, 11 for assaults, 10 for accidents, and nine for intoxicated subjects, among other calls.
