WINDOM - A bike refurbishing program is hoping to get more people a mode of transportation while clearing out unused bicycles from people’s garages and sheds.

The program sponsored by the Business, Arts and Recreation Center, Windom Kiwanis Club and Windom Hospital is now accepting used bicycle donations of all sizes.

Bike donations can be dropped off in BARC’s northwest parking lot by a bike recycling sign.

In the coming weeks, Windom Kiwanis members will refurbish the bicycles that are able to be repaired. Those not able to be restored to working order will be utilized for parts or will be taken to a regional recycling collection in Sioux Falls, S.D. The updated bicycles will be distributed from 10 a.m. to noon June 1 at the BARC.

More than 45 refurbished bikes were dolled out as a result of the partnership’s first event last year.
