WINDOM - The east side of the historic Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom has received a facelift.

After about a month’s work, construction was well on its way to being complete on a step and parking lot rehabilitation project of the early 20th-century courthouse.

According to Cottonwood County Coordinator Kelly Thongvivong, step deterioration necessitated the repairs. Much like the replacement of the west steps in 2012, the new east steps are heated to reduce liability, she added.

The parking lot has also been cemented and curbed. It’s to be striped with the hope that the lot may be used more efficiently, Thongvivong added.

Negen Construction of Windom has been heading the project. The project is estimated to cost $54,000, though financial financial information had not been finalized by Monday morning.

In the meantime, the county is continuing to pursue Minnesota Historical Society grant dollars to replace its windows.
