LITTLE ROCK, Iowa - A young child has died as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a pickup truck Monday afternoon north of Little Rock, Iowa.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a pickup versus pedestrian crash at approximately 3:46 p.m. in the 4500 block of 110th Street, three miles north of Little Rock.

A 2016 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 77-year-old Little Rock male was travelling eastbound on 110th Street, approaching two UTV’s parked on the south side of the roadway. The driver saw two adults working on a field tile in the south ditch and a young child standing behind the UTV’s and slowed to approximately 5 to 10 miles per hour. As the pickup was passing the area where the UTV’s were parked, another young child stepped onto the roadway from the ditch on the north side and was struck by the pickup.

The driver was uninjured and the child was taken by ambulance to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley with life threatening injuries. Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep reported Tuesday morning that he’d been told the child died of his injuries on Monday at the hospital.

The names of the driver and victim are being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation. Lyon County deputies were assisted on scene by the Little Rock Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.
