OKOBOJI, Iowa — The Dickinson County Nature Center in Okoboji is offering a pumpkin-themed Family Nature Night at 7 p.m. Friday. The free event includes naturalists talking about the growing cycle of pumpkins and other plants, as well as pollination.

Participants will also get to paint a pumpkin, thanks to Solsma’s Pumpkin Patch in Sanborn, Iowa, and take it home to celebrate the season.

The nature center will also offer its annual Howlin’ Halloween program 4 p.m. Oct. 31, with an emphasis on snakes. Attendees will learn about the corn snake animal ambassadors at the nature center, participate in fun songs, a costume parade, crafts and trick-or-treating.

Howlin’ Halloween is for all ages and will last approximately 45 minutes so families can still enjoy trick-or-treating in their hometown, if they wish.
