Aberdeen man who was standing in middle of SD highway dies when hit by car
CANTON, S.D. — A 73-year-old Aberdeen man who was standing in the middle of a highway in the southeast South Dakota town of Canton has died after being hit by a vehicle.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol said Wednesday, Oct. 10, that Larry Pigors died in the crash that occurred about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday night.
In the crash, the Patrol said that Austin Knutson, 25, of Canton, was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 in Canton when he saw a person standing in the middle of the road. The Patrol said Knutson tried to stop, but his vehicle collided with Pigors, said the Patrol.
Pigors died at the scene.
Knutson, who was wearing his seatbelt, wasn’t injured.
An investigation into the crash is continuing, said the Patrol. Canton is about 20 miles south of Sioux Falls.
