TRACY -- The Adrian Dragons wrestling team punched its ticket for a fourth straight trip to the Class AA state tournament Friday night, eliminating the Fulda/Murray County Central Warriors with a 34-21 victory in the Section 3AA championship match.

Adrian will face the champion of Section 8AA in the state quarterfinal Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.

Glen Kruger earned the final points for the Dragons in the 215-pound match against Travis Radke. Kruger, entering the third period up 10-3, only needed one point to earn the major decision. It turned out the two-point move provided just the security he needed in a 12-4 victory that put Adrian up for good, 28-21.

Will Lutmer was given a forfeit in the final match to provide the final margin.

In the first match of the night, Jacob Dorn scored a near fall toward the end of the second period to gain a 2-0 against Elissa Reinsma, then pushed it to 3-0 before Reinsma rallied within one point. Dorn, however, held on in the third period and scored the victory, giving Adrian the quick 3-0 lead.

Travis DeLong had to go beyond the bell to score a 3-1 triple-overtime victory against Brock Bullerman of Adrian at 125 pounds. After being called for stalling in the second period, DeLong defended a double-leg shot toward the end of the first extra session, forcing a second overtime.

After a scoreless second OT, DeLong started out of the down position in the third OT and used both an escape and a reversal to finally break the tie, and earn the 3-1 victory.

Scott Beech added another key victory for the Warriors at 140 pounds, holding off Andy Heitkamp 5-4, to push the dual advantage to 15-6 with seven matches to go.

The state's tenth-ranked wrestler, Jordan Reker (152) turned things around for Adrian with a pinfall in the third period against Andy Henning after Henning was close to grabbing the lead himself in the final period.

Zach Reker followed with another pinfall in the 160-pound match against Ben Clark to give Adrian a 24-15 lead. Tyler Wagner had a chance to extend the lead even further in the 171-pound match against Kody Kramer, but Kramer rallied and pulled out a 5-3 victory and cut the deficit to 24-18.

Fulda/MCC's final victory came in the 189-pound match. Will Steinmetz led Calvin Loosbrock 3-1 in the second period when Loosbrock stumbled and fell on top of one of the cheerleaders near the ring -- while his feet and ankles were still inside the ring. Steinmetz took advantage of the opportunity and scored the easy pinfall for the 5-2 victory.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton had control of the early weights, winning four of the first six contests, but could not hold off Adrian in the later weights as the Dragons won their semifinal over the host Panthers.

Andy Heitkamp started the surge for the Dragons with a default victory at 140 pounds. Nate Barker then followed with a 14-6 major decision over Derek Evans at 145 pounds to give Adrian the 19-12 lead -- what proved to be the winning points.

Jordan Reker (152) and Zach Reker (160 each added pinfalls before T-M-B's James Prairie, the eighth-ranked wrestler in the state, won an exciting match from sixth-ranked Tyler Wagner 10-7.

T-M-B won five matches in the contest -- all five via decision. The Panthers came back from a slim 9-6 deficit with victories from Luke Prairie (130) and Calvin Cooreman (135) to grab a 12-9 lead -- the final deficit faced by the Dragons in the match.
