I recently ate in a local establishment that is not smoke-free. Even though I sat in the non-smoking section, my eyes burned and my throat became irritated from the smoke that drifted into the smoking section. I feel most individuals are knowledgeable that exposure to secondhand smoke is dangerous to our health. I think it would be great if Nobles County would ensure that our indoor air is safe and clean for everybody.
I am proud to be a new member of the CAFE (Clean Air For Everyone) of Nobles County and would like to see Minnesota become the 18th state in the nation to become smoke-free. But, if not, I feel it is our responsibility to encourage our local government officials to ensure that the air we breathe is as safe as our water and our food.
Secondhand smoke is a serious public health problem and I, for one, hope that in the near future I can patronize local establishments without compromising my health.
