Annual Corn Show begins in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Iowa -- The community of Little Rock is celebrating its 62nd annual Corn Show as well as its quasquicentennial -- 125th anniversary of its founding -- with activities that continue through this weekend. This year's Corn Show theme is "All American Town."

Today's events include races for kids at 1 p.m. in Town and Country Park and an antique display on Main Street. McDermott Carnival Rides will begin operating in the late afternoon on Main Street. "The Teach Boys" are slated to present a musical program at 6 p.m., and the button drawing for a variety of prizes will take place at 7 p.m.

Saturday events include: 25-mile bike ride or 5-mile walk, 8 a.m., Town & Country Park; antique display on Main Street; pork dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall; Mr. Twister from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street; 1:30 p.m. golf ball roll; 2 p.m. parade; 1800s Wild West re-enactment during the parade; Wes Maggers of Jasper performing country-western music beginning at 6 p.m. under the tent; button drawing at 7 p.m. under the tent; teen dance featuring Cory Storm from 8 p.m. to midnight south of City Hall. Carnival rides will be offered throughout the day.

On Sunday, a waffle breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at city hall. Other events include a joint church service at 10 a.m. under the tent; co-ed sand volleyball tournament at noon; antique tractor pull at 1 p.m. at Town & Country Park.
