FARGO - Police here say a 51-year-old woman landed in the emergency room Tuesday after she bent down to pet a stranger's dog and was bit in the face.
The victim said she was having a smoke outside the Bismarck Tavern on Broadway at about 8:30 p.m. when a woman with two dogs walked past, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
The victim told police she bent down to pet the larger of the two dogs, and the dog bit her in the face. She was taken by ambulance to MeritCare Hospital with what appeared to be a bite to the face, Lykken said.
The dogs' owner told police that when the victim bent down to pet the dog, it jumped up and scratched her in the face but didn't bite her.
Police will check the dog's shots record, but they appear to be up to date, Lykken said.
