Host families sought for students
MOUNTAIN LAKE -- STS Foundation is looking for host families for teens from Europe and Asia.
Students have their own spending money and health insurance and are matched to families by hobbies and interests. Families need to provide three meals a day, a place to study and a bed to sleep in.

Students initiated into honor society

Motorcycle license course offered
SHELDON, Iowa -- Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon, will offer the Motorcycle Safety Foundaiton's License Waiver Rider Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12.
Successful completion of the course means the Iowa Department of Transportation will waive the riding portion of its test. The course features eight hours of riding and discussion for motorcyclists as well as basic riding skills.
Proof of insurance and a motorcycle learner's permit are required to enroll.

Area students earn scholarships
WORTHINGTON -- Local students planning to attend Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, this fall have received scholarships.

Brian Westerbur of Ihlen received the Bjorling Music Scholarship, Elizabeth Yackel-Juleen of Windom received the Anderson Theatre and Dance Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarship, and Victoria Ektnitphong of Worthington received the Dean's Scholarship.
Harris student to attend St. Luke's
SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Allison Brueggeman of Harris, Iowa, received the William and Rose Steinmetz Memorial Scholarship of $2,000.
The scholarship is for the 2008-2009 academic year at St. Luke's College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Bents awarded scholarship
WORTHINGTON -- Timothy Bents of Bigelow was awarded the Yellow and Blue Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year at the University of South Dakota.
Bents is the son of Robert and Bonnie Bents and a 2008 graduate of Worthington High School.
Reading student is academic honoree

READING -- Stacey Kingery of Reading was awarded the Mellenthin Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Kingery is the daughter of Bruce and Gail Kingery.
College to host Senior Citizen's Day
SHELDON, Iowa -- Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon will host its 24th annual Senior Citizen's Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Free blood pressure checks will be offered throughout the day. Additionally, a congregate meal will be served on site.
Student recognized for excellence
SIBLEY, Iowa -- The United States Achievement Academy has announced Michael Berkland of Sibley as a student of excellence in Leadership.
Berkland attends Iowa State University and is a graduate of Sibley-Ocheyedan High School.

Four become certified technicians
SHELDON, Iowa -- Four Northwest Iowa Community College Automotive Service Technology students passed their ASE test and became Automotive Service of Excellence Certified Technicians.

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- High school juniors from around the region gathered on campus at South Dakota State University for the Youth Engineering Adventure camp June 15-19.
Students participated in a number of activities during the weeklong camp including demonstrations, hands-on projects, tours, design projects, speakers and social functions.
Those who attended the camp were Logan Bengtson of Slayton and Alana Ablog of Worthington.
