WILLMAR -- Two men face second-degree assault charges for their roles in an incident that allegedly started due to an argument over $20.

Abdikadir Muhumed Mire, 18, and Labarron Suntel Black, 31, made their first appearances Friday in Kandiyohi County District Court.

Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 for Mire and $75,000 for Black. Black also faces two misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charges. Both make their next appearance Monday.

According to the complaint, Willmar police responded around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to Lakeview high-rise, 300 Seventh St. N.W., after receiving a report of men fighting and chasing each other around the parking lot with baseball bats.

Upon arriving on scene, Black told the officers he'd given $20 to a friend, who had passed the money on to Mire and Qaman Mohamed Hirsi, 21, of Willmar.

He said he'd asked for the money back and an argument ensued. He said Mire and Hirsi then assaulted him. Black said he went to a vehicle to get a bat and chased Mire, while swinging it.

Hirsi, who faces misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges for his role in the incident, told officers Black gave them $20 to purchase drugs and got upset when they couldn't find any. He said Black punched him, at which point Black and Mire got out their bats. Hirsi said he then ran away.

Mire told officers Black approached him about the $20 and punched him in the face. At that point, he said, is when they both grabbed their bats and began chasing each other.
