MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Bounthong Inthaxay was charged with attempted first-degree murder Friday night in Cottonwood County after repeatedly striking Phayboun Khekitisack on the head with a handle early Thursday evening.
Inthaxay had hired Khekitisack to help fix the transmission on his car and became upset about the job Khekitisack was doing. Inthaxay then took a handle off a two-ton jack and struck Khekitisack on the head multiple times with it.
Khekitisack was transported to Windom Area Hospital, where his injuries were determined to be life-threatening. He was then airlifted to Sioux Falls, S.D., where he underwent surgery.
He was reportedly in critical condition as of Friday.
At Inthaxay's initial hearing, bail was set at $100,000 with conditions and $300,000 without conditions. His next hearing, a Rule 8 Hearing, will be 4 p.m. Oct. 13.
