Bank embezzler sentenced to prison

ST. PAUL -- A Jackson woman who embezzled up to $120,000 while employed at Jackson's United Prairie Bank has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison.

ST. PAUL -- A Jackson woman who embezzled up to $120,000 while employed at Jackson's United Prairie Bank has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison.

Carolyn F. Hampel, 66, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in St. Paul. She was also ordered to pay in excess of $130,000 in restitution.

Hampel was charged April 6 and pled guilty shortly afterward to embezzling between $30,000 and $120,000 from customer accounts. She admitted during her plea agreement that she taken the money during a period between January 2005 and August 2011.
